Michael Jackson - Bad / Beyonce - Single Ladies

In our lesson, we watched a number of Michael Jackson videos and compared them with lots of his other work, to see how one of the greatest entertainers in the world took his ideas to his music videos and presented these videos to the world.

Bad

Michael Jackson was in the middle of every frame. He was the main character.

Good use of costumes as he was wearing something different to everyone else in the room.

Diegetic sound used from his clothes to add to the beat.

Confrontation at the end which links to the name of the song.

MJ is in control of the whole situation as he rallies his crew around the urban setting.

Beyonce - Single Ladies

We also looked at the cover of the Beyonce album called I am... Sasha Fierce and compared to her song Single Ladies.

We came across many similarities with the picture and the video.

The way she is dressed on the back is how she is dressed in the video.

The use of colour is the same in the video and the album.

The use of voyeurism is high in the video and on the back of the album cover.

Beyonce is the main dancer in the video and ulitmately is gazed upon the most. Her side dancers are almost non existence because of Beyonce's presence.
